The questions we get the most.

Everything you need to know before joining on May 8, 2026.

Essentials

Yes, 100% free. No fee, no paid signup, nothing.

No. There is no signup form. Just show up and walk.

Yes, but the collective goal really is 100,000. Your pedometer is your own judge: if you hit 50,000 and must stop, that’s already huge. The idea is that everyone tries to go all the way.

Ideally you’re there at 5:30. If you join later, you’re starting with a step gap, and hitting 100,000 the same day gets harder. We’ll post our location on Instagram/TikTok so you can find us.

Yes, totally your call, but we encourage you to hold on until your 100,000th step. That’s the spirit of the challenge.

The challenge

No. No timing, no ranking, nobody pushes anyone. It’s a collective endurance challenge, not a competition.

No, but you need to be honest with yourself. Walking all day is not nothing. Pick a goal that matches your fitness.

The Le Voyage à Nantes Green Line is 16 to 20 km (it isn’t a perfect loop, it includes a few branches). 100,000 steps is roughly 75 km, about 4 laps of the Green Line. You don’t have to do it all: come for 1 lap, 2 laps, or go for all 4.

Plenty of water, snacks, a power bank, broken-in shoes, and a light jacket depending on the weather.

Yes, but short: 15 minutes maximum recommended, and keep them to a minimum if you’re seriously aiming for 100,000. The longer you stop, the harder it gets to restart.

No. Everyone manages their own water, food and needs. The route passes through town, so refills are easy.

Practical

We share a decision 24 hours ahead on Instagram and TikTok. Light rain, we walk. Heavy weather, we adapt or postpone.

Monument aux 50-Otages, in Nantes. A well-known, easy-to-find landmark.

Meeting at 5:00 AM, departure at 5:30 sharp. We start on time to catch the cool morning air and the sunrise. The later you start, the harder 100,000 is to reach before midnight. Every hour of delay counts.

Yes, and we encourage it. The more, the better, within reason and with respect for the city.

The event is open to all, but without personal supervision. A minor can only attend under the full responsibility of a parent or legal guardian, present at all times. If in doubt, keep it a short participation.

Mainly via the participants’ WhatsApp group (link on the site), and via our Instagram (@100kstepsnantes) and TikTok (@100kstepsnantes). We share live position, route tweaks, short breaks and where sub-groups are merging back together.

We start as one group for the first steps. Quickly, sub-groups form by pace and affinity, and that’s normal. The route runs several loops with small variants, so we cross paths and merge back together regularly.
